Presentation

Created in 2000, Nature plus is a Belgian non governmental organisation (NGO) active in several countries of Central and West Africa. Our NGO is specialised in innovative natural resources management using community and participatory approaches both in the fields of community forestry (Cameroon, Senegal) and community wildlife management (Burkina Faso). Our tight links with the Gembloux Agricultural University (Faculté Universitaire des Sciences agronomiques de Gembloux) (Belgium) are a guarantee for the scientific accuracy of Nature plus studies.

Being a non profit organisation, the members of Nature plus’ board of directors are all volunteers and do not perceive any direct or indirect revenue linked to their function. Any benefit that might result from our projects is entirely reinvested in our activities.

Currently Nature plus employs 11 collaborators: in-house experts based in Gembloux (Belgium) and carrying out short term missions as well as expatriated engineers responsible for a specific project. The salary of our staff is conditioned by their experience and expertise while taking into account the demands of the donor. As a non profit organisation, we ensure that the funds are invested in the project and used for implementing the activities on the field.

As we work in close collaboration with the Gembloux Agricultural University, most of our projects offer training possibilities for future engineers and doctors in agricultural sciences.

Finally, the handing over of activities and projects to national administrations or local NGO’s is one of the main principles of Nature plus working philosophy.
